School Quality Review

The Lilla G. Frederick Pilot Middle School believes that the awesome responsibility of educating our children is properly handled through the formation of partnerships with parents/guardians, community members and community organizations. In order to deliver a competitive education to students all of the before mentioned parties must play an active role in the educational process and school experience.

LGFPMS has developed the following Parent/Family Involvement Policy that will assist in the achievement of the goal of providing a quality education to our students. The following policy has been developed in accordance with standards set forth by the National PTA, the No Child Left Behind Act, and the Boston Public School Systems Focus on Children Initiative.

1. Communication

* Communication with parents should take place on a regular, consistent basis through identifiable, recognizable mediums.
* Communication should be two way between parents and school, an equal exchange between both parties.
* Communication should be purposeful and meaningful, clear and relevant.

2. Parenting skills should be promoted and supported

* The school will participate in and adopt activities and practices that foster the development and enhancement of parenting skills, thereby strengthening the parent’s ability to assist in the educational process.

3. Develop the role of parents as teachers; parents play a primary role in learning

* All stake holders must come to understand that parents have the greatest impact on student achievement, and the role of the parent as a partner must be valued and cherished.

4. Volunteering: Everyone benefits from participating at school

* Parents/Guardians
* Community Members and Community Organizations
* Students

5. Parents as decision makers and policy developers through active participation in:

* School Parent Council
* Governance Board

6. Develop relationship with the broader community

* Harness resources to enhance the school, families and student learning
