When parents at Dorchester’s Lilla Frederick Pilot Middle School opted for their children to wear uniforms five years ago, Principal Debra Socia was skeptical. Her students disliked a dress code that ran to slacks and collared shirts.
“I was not convinced it was a great idea because I didn’t grow up with uniforms and didn’t know what the value would be,” said Socia. “We came from resisting to the point where the children are anxious to wear them for the most part,” she said, adding that uniform shirts sold out within the first days of the school’s reopening.
